Coal Bowldozers — Sidewall Blades That Keep the Load In
Dymax Coal Bowldozers push large volumes of coal while minimizing side spillage.
It’s similar to slot dozing — without digging a trench.
The leading edge cuts into the pile and feeds coal back into the center box. Once full, the box carries the whole load to the end of the push, then drops it when you raise the blade.
There’s less mess to clean up, fewer passes, and the machine isn’t fighting the pile.
Built by the family that invented it — one of a handful of companies on earth that still builds it.

FAQ’S
WHAT IS A COAL BOWLDOZER?
| A coal bowldozer is a high-capacity dozer blade with tall, box-reinforced sidewalls that hold material in the bowl through the entire push instead of letting it spill over the sides. It is also known as a sidewall blade. It’s used to move large volumes of loose material over short, repeated distances.
The Balderson family designed the original coal bowldozer, and we’re still building them today. |
HOW IS A BOWLDOZER DIFFERENT FROM A U-BLADE?
|
A U-blade’s wings build a pile in front of the machine, but on a long push the material starts spilling around the sides. A bowldozer’s box sidewalls trap the load and keep it in front of the machine to the end of the run, so you move more per pass and make fewer passes. |
COAL BOWLDOZER OR COAL BLADE — WHICH DO I NEED?
|
Choose a coal bowldozer when you’re carrying coal over a longer distance. The sidewalls hold the full load the entire push and release it when you lift, so you move more with less spillage. Choose a coal blade for pushing high volumes over short distances — building and reclaiming stockpiles. |
WHICH DOZERS DOES THE COAL BOWLDOZER FIT?
|
It’s built for Cat and Komatsu track and wheel dozers, from the Cat 834 wheel dozer up through the D10 class, and it mounts to your factory outside-mount push arms. Send us your machine make and model, and we’ll confirm the exact fit. |
WHAT CAPACITIES ARE AVAILABLE?
|
Standard builds run from 26.3 yd³ up to 48.75 yd³. If your application needs a different width or capacity, contact us for a custom configuration – 1-800-530-5407 |
WHAT WEARS OUT, AND CAN I REPLACE IT WITHOUT REPLACING THE BLADE?
|
Bolt-on edges on the stinger and main edge group, plus the sole-plate edges under the back moldboard, all swap out individually — you replace edges, not the blade. Order replacements through Dymax parts. |
CAN YOU BUILD A CUSTOM SIZE OR CONFIGURATION?
