WHAT IS A SEMI-U DOZER BLADE?

A semi-U blade has 25-degree angled wings that build a U-shaped pile. It carries more material per pass than a straight blade, while staying more versatile than a full U. It’s the most common blade for mixed dozing: road building, stockpile work, landfills, and mining.

SEMI-U VS. STRAIGHT VS. FULL U-BLADE — WHICH ONE DO I NEED?

Straight blades spread and grade and carry the least. Full U-blades have deeper wings for maximum retention on one repeated task, like coal or reclamation. Semi-U splits the difference — more capacity than a straight blade, more flexibility than a full U — which is why it’s the default for general-purpose dozing. Push one material all day and a full U-blade may earn its keep; do a bit of everything and the semi-U is usually the right call.

WILL A DYMAX SEMI-U BLADE FIT MY DOZER?

Dymax semi-U blades bolt to the factory outside-mount push arms on Caterpillar and Komatsu track dozers (D6 / D65 up through D11 / D475) and Cat wheel dozers (824–854), plus select other machines. Connector blocks, pins, and retainers that join the blade to your push arms aren’t included, since those are machine-specific. Send us your machine’s make, model, and bulldozer arrangement number and we’ll confirm the exact fit.

WHICH WEAR PACKAGE DO I NEED FOR ABRASIVE MATERIAL

For high-wear work, Dymax offers a chrome carbide liner package, Hardox 400 or Hardox 500 wear packages, white iron wear blocks, replaceable side shrouds, and top-moldboard rock guards. The Heavy Duty Abrasion models come with a 3/8-inch AR400 liner package installed over the moldboard, built for taconite, phosphate, hard rock, and other severe-abrasion mining.

CAN I GET A CUSTOM WING ANGLE, WIDTH, OR LINER?

Yes. 25 degrees is the standard wing angle, but Dymax builds wings, overall width, capacity, and liner packages to your spec — based on five generations of Balderson-family engineering expertise. Tell us the machine and the application, and we’ll design to it.

DO YOU MAKE SEMI-U BLADES FOR LGP AND WIDE-TRACK DOZERS?

Yes — Dymax builds dedicated LGP and wide-track models, including variable-radius versions with a cone-shaped moldboard for a Cat D6 XE LGP. Standard-width blades won’t fit an LGP tractor, so this isn’t a swap; it’s a specific build. Current LGP capacities run 9.0 to 10.2 cubic yards.
